According to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports, The Rangers and Phillies are “having ongoing dialogue about Hamels” and the 31-year-old pitcher would allow a trade to Texas.
SPECTOR: Here’s how the Phillies should rebuild
Hamels is currently 5-5 with a 2.96 ERA with 103 strikeouts in 94 1/3 innings, but the Phillies (25-47) own the worst record in baseball and the left-hander wants to move to a competitive team.
The Rangers (37-33) are expected to get Derek Holland, Matt Harrison and Martin Perez back from injury at some point this season, but lack a true ace with Yu Darvish out for the year. Hamels would fill that void.
There are a multitude of teams looking to gain Hamels’ services, including the Red Sox and Yankees, but the Rangers might be prepared to strike first.
